註1：自營生物可行光合作用而直接從自然界攝取養分。相對的，異營生物（heterotroph）則必須靠攝食其他生物才能生存。而流口水這動作是攝食才有的，所以此句的 "自營生物開始流口水" 意指自營生物開始進化成異營生物。

註2：此句的 "a wall" 一詞有人指出是中國的萬里長城或是羅馬帝國的哈德良長城。但我覺得此兩者的興建年代都與後句的金字塔有很大落差，所以應該只是單純指築牆這件事而已。而且繁瑣的築牆工事也是代表人類文明進展的里程碑之一。

註3："dawn" 是早晨，"the dawn of XX" 則代表某件事的開始。這裡的 "the dawn of man" 便是人類誕生之意。另外，為什麼 Since the dawn of man 這句話要加引號呢？因為 Since the dawn of man 有個用法是調侃他人我早就知道了的意思。好比別人吃驚地要告訴您一個八卦，但其實您 N 年前就聽過了，就可以說 "Come on. The gossip has been spread since the dawn of man！" 不過雖然人類已經發展長遠，但相對於宇宙產生的時間仍顯得非常微不足道，所以這句歌詞才會如此說。

註4：不論是星系或是元素都是要花好久好久好久好久的時間才能產生的！這兩句歌詞會將兩者說得那麼迅速，是將宇宙 150 億年的時間換算成一天。此時不論是星系或是元素形成都只占幾秒鐘而已。

註5：恐龍當然不會自己把自己冰起來。這句話要說的是，冰河期的到來將恐龍埋藏於冰層中。

註6："pangea" 是盤古大陸。這裡的「大海跟大陸說再見」指的是大陸漂移學說。"See ya" 則是 "See you" 的口語用法。

註7：這整段歌詞以底下圖片講解較好理解。目前的理論認為宇宙最初是由一個非常緻密的中心點歷經大爆炸 (Big Bang) 所產生。爆炸後，宇宙便不斷膨脹，星球彼此間的距離於是越來越遠。但關於宇宙的未來將何去何從尚無定論。有一派的說法（往右下走的那條路徑）解釋，宇宙在某個時間點上將會發生大坍縮 (big crunch)，星球移動的方向將從原本的向外拋出變成向內聚集，直到最後宇宙重新坍塌成一個點而滅亡。此時，宇宙就必須在經歷一次大爆炸才能重生。不過等到此事發生之前，有看到這篇文章的大家都已經掛了。
